Jester Lavorre- My character of choice

Ever since discovering critical role, I have never felt more connected to a character than Jester. I knew immediately I had to cosplay her. I have 3 versions of her costume that i’ve made so far. Unfortunately not many progress pictures of this costume exist so I’ll try to be detailed in how I did things.

The first time I wore Jester to Colossalcon by Dancing Squirrel Photography

For this Cosplay, I started on the under skirt and arm sleeve attachments. I decided to use a peasant blouse top my mom had from her childhood when she lived in Turkey so I just wanted to make attachments for the long sleeve parts. This was one of my first times using my airbrush ever! It ended up WAY too hot pink and I soaked the parts for a day or so and was lucky that most of the paint came out and I was left with the pink you see in photos. I made the blue overskirt panels next, and lined them with a pretty daisy printed cotton that shows in a couple photos. it’s a small detail but I love it so much.

After I finished the skirt, I made the cape out of a cape I was actually given that someone didn’t want! I shortened it and added the lining. I also worked on the armsleeves here. I used we love color tights and sewed them to an outline of my hands cut into cardboard, inserted inside. I fray checked the edges before cutting the edges and added the fake nails. I also used a coat hanger to make the tail at this point. Unfortunately I no longer have this tail but I hope to remake it eventually before I wear her again.

Next I made the horns from EVA foam and textured them with my Dremel. this was one of my first times working with EVA foam actually! I attached them to a headband that would later be covered in flowers, chains and sparkles! I next made the belts out of pleather and I did a braiding technique for the braided belt. I made her holy symbol and pins out of worbla. After I finished those things jester was almost done! I made her corset kind of lazily so I would later go back and clean it up a bit and add actual boning after finishing my Sakizou cosplay and felt more comfortable working with boning.

When quarantine started in 2020 I started doing a lot of e-shoots with friends to try and cheer ourselves up. I decided to do photos with my beloved friend Amie Photos to do a concept cosplay of my own creation. I took a silver prom dress from Amazon I was gifted and completely changed and altered it to be my own. I covered it in blue flowers and pearls and the photos turned out so beautiful! We called this look “the Sapphire of the Sea”

For February I ended up making a little Valentines day Jester that I really love. I got a ton of heart shaped balloons and grabbed a corset I already owned to put the outfit together. I also did a second pink lingerie look that I’m proud of. I personally believe it’s very in character for her

Once things got to be a little safer, in spring of 2021 I went with Dancing Squirrel to a beautiful bluebell trail and decided to make her lollipop spiritual weapon. I used duct tape, and pool noodles, as well as some leftover fabric from Sakizou to make some bows to adorn the PVC stick.

We got the lovely surprise of Laura Bailey actually noticing the costume on twitter! When Squirrel texted me a screenshot I lost my mind! It may not be much but just being given a little second of her attention felt really special to me! I admire her work so much and I have cosplayed a couple of other characters she’s voiced as well such as Lich Jaina
